At the present time, February 2013, the Philippine Congress is in the process of amending the Animal Welfare Act of 1998. Higher penalties, longer prison sentences, a restructuring of the Committee on Animal Welfare, proper treatment of animals on public transportation vehicles and deputization of animal welfare organizations are just a few of the improvements sought for the new Animal Welfare Act. Animal welfare is everyone's business. It is not the sole responsibility of animal welfare organizations or other NGOs. When you know of or are witnessing animal abuse, you can either call for assistance or take action yourself using good judgment as per your personal well-being. Don't be a helpless spectator.
